Course Description

Length: 59min    Published: 4/27/2018
Although the number of states where recreational and/or medical cannabis are on the rise, there are many legal uncertainties when it comes to investing in and insuring businesses engaged in cannabis manufacturing and distribution. One of the key issues stems from the fact that cannabis is still illegal on the federal level and insurance and investment companies are federally regulated. This conflict does not mean, however, that these industries cannot work together, but attorneys representing parties engaged in these relationships must be wary of the many issues that can affect their clients. In this program, Nevada cannabis attorney, Martina Jaccarino, unravels these issues and provides a roadmap for attorneys trying to navigate the cannabis industry. Among the topics discussed are criminal law and the limitations on the DEA, banking and IRS issues, and FDA oversight of cannabis.
Learning Objectives
* Understand the impact of the federal designation of cannabis on insurance and investment companies
* Explore the many issues faced by investors who invest in the cannabis industry
* Learn best practices for counseling clients in cannabis investment ventures
