What is Arizona's CLE requirement?
15 hours each year, including 3 hours of professional responsibility.
When is my deadline?
Arizona attorneys must complete their CLE requirement by June 30th each year.
What if I'm a newly admitted attorney?
New attorneys admitted during the first half of an educational year (July to December) have a reduced requirement of 10 total hours, of which 2 must be professional responsibility. Attorneys admitted during the second half of the year have no CLE requirement for that year.
What if I've been inactive or exempt for part of my CLE cycle?
Unless you are a newly admitted attorney, any Arizona attorney who is active on June 30th must complete the entire CLE requirement by that date.
What if I don't comply by my deadline?
CLE can be completed after June 30th, and an affidavit can be filed after September 15th. However, the attorney will be subject to late fees as annotated in Rule 45(d), Ariz. R. Sup. Ct. The fee scale can be found here: http://www.azbar.org/cleandmcle/mcle/mclerequirementsanddeadlines. If the MCLE requirements are not met by December 15, summary suspension may result.
How are CLE credit hours calculated?
Under Regulation 104, credits are calculated by dividing the total minutes of instruction by 60 and rounding down to the nearest quarter.
Can I carry over extra credit hours?
Yes. 15 hours of CLE credit, including three professional responsibility hours, can be carried forward to the next reporting period.
